Ultrasound Therapy in Dogs

Ultrasound is a physical therapy treatment for muscle injuries. It increases the circulation of blood and aids in healing inflammation. It speeds up the natural healing process. It also helps control the pain associated with arthritic joints.

Ultrasound uses waves that are converted to heat when tissues absorb the ultrasound waves. Ultrasound therapy works similarly as heat therapy. It decreases swelling, which speeds up the healing process, and reducing scar tissue around joints. Thus, joints can work more effectively, employing full range of motion. It also improves circulation, thereby increasing the pliability of muscles, ligaments and tendons.

Some of the conditions that are treated by ultrasound includes but not limited to muscle and joint swelling, and ligament and tendon injuries.

How is it performed:

1. Hot compression is the first step in ultrasound therapy. It is being done for five minutes.
2. Next step is the ultrasound therapy. An ultrasonic gel is being applied to the area which is being treated.
3. After a 15-minute ultrasound, an electrical pulse is being transmitted to the body to help the muscles relax.

Baby Alive

My yaya call her baby alive. She is the only puppy left among the litter of five. She is doing good right now. Her two eyes are fully open. She can run towards her mom already. She is three and a half week old in this video. She is just starting to walk and yet she learned pretty fast. At this age, she is already running around her pen whenever she is awake.

Acupuncture in dogs is being used as an alternative medical option for some illnesses. It is an energetic form of healing. Acupuncture uses needles that are inserted in the different parts of the body called acupoints. Tiny needles are being inserted in the body’s acupoints to restore or redirect the flow of energy. One commonly used method of acupuncture is the electrostimulated acupuncture or simply called electroacupuncture.

In electroacupuncture, the needles are attached to a device which generates electrical pulses. It is said to provide stronger stimulation. Electroacupuncture is used to treat muscuskeletal disorders like muscle soreness, back pain, chronic arthritis, slipped disk, hip dysplasia, degenerative joint disease. It is also used to treat digestive problems, reproductive related problems, epilepsy other nervous system conditions. Electroacupuncture is often used for dogs diagnosed with arthritis. It helps reduce the pain and inflammation by stimulating the central nervous system to release endorphins. Thus, blocking the pain pathways.

Electroacupuncture may work on SOME dog but not for EVERY dog. Do not assume that it can totally heal your dog. I still recommend you follow the standard treatment of your vet since electroacupuncture is just an alternative form of healing. Although you can opt to combine the standard treatment of your vet and electroacupuncture. Who knows, electroacupuncture might help your dog recover faster.

Open Up Baby Puppy

Finally, my baby puppy has opened her eyes. She opened her right eye only but I am still happy. I was able to see her facial expression with her eyes open. I am expecting that she will open her other eye by tomorrow. She is doing great today. She is showing signs that she is a strong puppy already. She can crawl around her bed. She can also locate her mother when it’s feeding time already. I have high hopes that this baby puppy of mine will survive the situation that her littermates experienced. I just hope that she’ll be healthy everyday.

My Baby Puppy

One week since my fourth puppy died, I haven’t written an article yet as to what happened to the last puppy that was left in my care. Well, I am so proud to announce that she is still alive and very healthy. I just hope that she stay healthy always. I want this puppy to survive. I love her face. Most of all, I love her will to survive. I still remember the day she was born. She was the weakest puppy that came out from the mother. She was so weak that I need to tube feed her first taste of milk. I never thought that she will survive. For now, I have great hope that she will live. Since she passed the first two weeks of her life which I considered a critical stage for puppies. Right now, she is on her third week. I hope to have her on her fourth week, fifth week and so on until her 15th year.

I am so excited and cannot wait to see her eyes open. She will see the world (and me of course) a few days from now. I will post her pictures with her eyes open. But for now, let me share her photos taken recently (her eyes are still close at this moment).

Premature Puppies: Day 9

It’s been a few days since I last updated my blog about my premature puppies. It’s so sad because the third female puppy passed away yesterday morning. I knew she had a slim chance of surviving. I am monitoring their weight everyday and I noticed that the third shih tzu puppy is not gaining weight. Instead, she is losing weight everyday even if she is feeding from her mom plus the milk replacer. She was the second to the largest puppy (the largest was the male puppy) that came out last Sunday but she was left behind by the fifth puppy already. Here is the last video I took before the third puppy crossed the rainbow bridge:

This is the last puppy left under my care. I am hoping that she will live. I have high hopes that she will. She now weighs 175 grams from 115 grams in Day 1. She is one cute puppy, isn’t she? She looks like Charlie Chaplin here .

Premature Puppies: Day 5

I have a very good news to all of you today. The two remaining puppies are doing great. It’s a good sign that I haven’t lost one puppy today. It gives me hope that I might actually be able to save these two remaining puppies from dying. I hope that they continue to get stronger as days pass by.
